It’s not too early to be prepared for flu season by getting your flu shot. This year the annual flu vaccine has gotten a makeover and there are more choices than ever. Just like last year, there is a choice of the regular needle-injected shot or the nose spray. After years of study, we now have a NON-egg based vaccine available as well. Also, this year we will be protected against 4 strains of flu with the vaccine instead of the traditional 3 strains.
New flu in China
A new flu strain, H7N9, was found in China this year. While this flu strain has only infected a small number of people, it has had an unusually high mortality rate. But rest assured, scientists in Japan are working on a vaccine in animals, which should be ready for humans in 4 months to protect against H7N9.
What’s really important though is that everyone gets their flu shot. Flu vaccines save lives. Remember, when you are vaccinated you are not only protecting yourself, but those around you.
