What these researchers have done, in reality, is mimic fasting in the body to achieve lowered glucose and insulin levels as well as C reactive protein (CRP) an indicator of heart disease.

Middle aged mice were fed low calorie, low protein twice a month for several months and it resulted in lower visceral fat, better bone density, and increased nerve cells in the brain.

Nineteen adults ate the diet for 5 days a month for 3 months and had lower levels of heart disease indicators.
