In a new study in the fight against colon cancer, cranberry compounds are proving effective in reducing tumors in mice.
Researchers fed four groups of mice with tumors whole cranberry powder, cranberry polyphenol extract, non polyphenol compound extract, or regular chow.
After 20 weeks, the mice fed the whole cranberry powder showed 50% fewer tumors than the mice who were fed regular chow and it was noted the tumors were smaller as well. What’s more, the cranberry-fed mice all showed lower inflammation markers.
I should mention that the amount of daily cranberry for this study was not a ridiculous amount, but equivalent to a cup a day for humans. Further research needs to be done to also test the efficacy of juice versus whole fruit as the skin of the berry contains important compounds lost in the juicing process.
