Bahrain (Feb. 13, 2003) — Zak, a 375-pound California sea lion leaps back into the boat after a harbor-patrol training mission. Zak is participating in the Space and Naval Warfare Systems CenterÕs, Shallow Water Intruder Detection System (SWIDS) program. The seal has been trained to locate swimmers near piers, ships, and other objects in the water that might be considered suspicious and a possible threat to military forces in the area.
