A second grade class has a pet, a pet with a disability. Not only is this turtle an amputee, he is a double amputee. This little turtle is a great teacher for the students in the class. Not only is he teaching them the responsibilities that come with pet ownership, he is teaching them about having a disability. The class has taken part in research to learn more about amputations and adaptations to make life easier for amputees.
Take a look at the “wheelchair” they have made for this little turtle: http://herald-review.com/news/local/education/amputee-turtle-trying-out-student-inspired-wheelchairs/article_fc5229d7-19e3-575e-912a-1d830fe7f826.html
