Animal research on jellyfish is broadening scientists’ understanding of tissue reorganization. When moon jellyfish lose a limb, their bodies are able to reorganize to maintain their body symmetry. Losing tentacles is not a catastrophic event for the jellyfish, and researchers would like to understand why. This could lead to huge advancements in the medical field in regards to amputations. Soldiers that lose a limb are seldom able to recover enough to get back to active duty. By researching tissue reorganization we can learn more about regeneration and what it means for the future of amputee soldiers.
