Scientists have discovered a link between gut bacteria and anxiety and depression. Using a mouse model, researchers found that anxious behaviors caused by stress were only present if certain were microbes living in the intestines. The researchers showed that gut bacteria play an extremely important role in causing abnormal behavior. This research will not only go on to help soldiers suffering from psychiatric disorders, but it could also potentially help unlock many of the mysteries of other behavioral disorders such as autism.
