A biologist at MIT has demonstrated that chronic stress caused by depression can be cured by tricking the brain into remembering a happy memory. Using mice, researchers coded cells that store happy memories to respond when exposed to a blue light. Mice that had undergone chronic stress snapped out of their depression following exposure to the blue light, and the effects lasted for days. This is really promising research for soldiers because they undergo chronic stress on a daily basis. Depression can be debilitating and something as simple as a blue light could completely eliminate it.
