Researchers at Purdue University are studying how service dogs affect veterans suffering from PTSD. K9s For Warriors, an organization that matches veterans who have PTSD with service dogs, is partnering with Purdue researchers to help with the study. K9s For Warriors has said that more than 90% of their program’s graduates are able to reduce or stop their medication within six months after getting paired with a service dog. This research study will possibly shape new policy from the Veterans Affairs Department. If the research finds positive support that the service dogs help veterans with PTSD, it will help to fund more resources for veterans.
