Researchers are asking veterans to donate their brains to science after their deaths. They are especially interested in those that have been diagnosed with PTSD or TBI, but are also encouraging those without these conditions to donate. The VA and DOD have started so called “brain banks” in hopes that as many veterans as possible will donate. The research will be used to catalog more information about neuroscience and will further our understanding of traumatic brain injuries, and brain diseases like Alzheimer’s and dementia. By studying the brains, hopefully we can get better at diagnosing and treating soldiers’ injuries.
