Have you heard the saying, “I get the gist of it”? When someone says this, they are implying that they get the general idea of a concept. How important is this type of reasoning? Researchers seem to think gist reasoning could be tied to many of the everyday living activities that are required of real-life functionality. Maybe this is why so many veterans with traumatic brain injuries struggle in their day-to-day activities.
“A new study from researchers at UT Dallas’ Center for Brain Health shows that individuals with traumatic brain injury (TBI) have significantly more difficulty with gist reasoning than traditional cognitive tests.”
