When sampling wine, you may hear the experts touch on the tannins, how their texture makes the wine taste dry and why some red wine pairs well with dark chocolate. Well, pair those tannins up with a common chemical called polyethelene glycol or PEG and you have the newest development in tissue adhesive.

Typical tissue adhesives, like fibrin, are expensive and don’t adhere well but a simple mix of antibacterial tannin and PEG reduced liver bleeding in mice six times over fibrin in 30 seconds and stopped bleeding completely after 2 minutes.
