Michael E. DeBakey Journalism Awards

The Michael E. DeBakey Journalism Awards, named after FBR’s late chairman Dr. Michael E. DeBakey, honor reporting that has enhanced public understanding of how the humane and responsible use of animal models leads to medical and scientific discoveries. Awards are presented for outstanding investigative or interpretive reporting published, broadcast or posted online between May 1st, 2015 and April 30th, 2016. Award winners will receive a Michael E. DeBakey Award, a $1,000 cash prize and a trip to Washington, D.C., to attend the 15th annual awards ceremony at the J.W. Marriott Hotel on September 7, 2016.

 

 

Entry Details

Entries may be submitted in the following categories:

  • Print/Online – Large Market (national/international)
  • Print/Online – Small Market (local/regional)
  • Magazine
  • Television
  • Radio/podcast

Entries must be accompanied by the following:

  • A cover letter (or email) explaining the importance of the piece and specifying entry category
  • Journalist’s brief biography and photo
  • Brief letter/email of consent from employer/media outlet
  • The piece itself as a .doc, .pdf, .mov, .mp4 or .wav file
  • Optional letter(s) of support from colleagues
